Enhanced Messaging Service
is based on SMS (Short Message Service. Through this technology,
an EMS-enabled mobile phone can receive and send messages
that include pixel pictures and animations, sound effects,
ring signals and formatted text. It is accepted by 3GPP.
Also new items can be downloaded from a WAP site. EMS items
can be exchanged between any types of phones irrespective
of model or make as long as they support the EMS standard.
EMS works on all Global System for Mobile communications
(GSM) networks (widely used in Europe and increasingly available
elsewhere).
